These pages are derived from the notes taken by Lee and myself when we make our beer and wine at home. Basically I’ve removed all the technical mumbo-jumbo and what’s left has been edited into something readable. I must state right away that we are not home brewing experts, just enthusiastic beginners. I thought it might be a good idea to publish our thoughts and opinions on the web as it’s possible some new home brewer might stumble upon us and find something useful, just as I did when I came across other sites like YoBrew and “Jim’s beer Kit” when I first began. I especially hope our kit reviews will be useful as there is a vast and bewildering selection to choose from on the market.
By experimenting with different kits one can quickly learn and understand what is possible to brew before starting up on your own recipes. The results of our efforts have dramatically exceeded our expectations, so we feel confident to experiment further and encourage others to start. With nearly every brew we complete, we are delighted by such rich flavours that it has made us rethink our opinions on what we once considered a good pint when we visited the pub.

Lee and I made our first brew in 1992, over twenty years ago. However owing to conflicting responsibilities we were forced to give up our hobby after making only seven brews. The amount of work required was taking our attention away from our two young children who were just about to begin school in a new town to which we had moved. Our decision to take up this hobby again is based on our changing circumstances. Our kids have finished education, grown up and left home so now we have the time and space!

I began writing these web pages after approximately a year of home brewing during which Lee and I managed to brew 110 gallons of beer.
