Fish and Seafood

Fish and seafood is something which I can become very excited about because for me it is a relatively new area, where there is much to be discovered. As a child I didn't eat a great deal of fish at home, mostly my mum simply served fish fingers!

Initially, when I started buying fresh fish, I discovered there was a very high quality fishmongers called Jarvis in my neighbourhood, Norbiton, Kingston. The quality of the fish at Jarvis is excellent without doubt but if you're cooking on a tight budget, it makes better sense to look around for more competitive deals!

Most of the big supermarkets today have a fresh fish section but I have to say I am biased towards small independent traders such as you should be able to find at your local market. Given the state of declining fish stocks in our coastal waters we attempt to be thoughtful about buying fish and when we do we want it to be special. We now try and visit our local fishmonger in Kingston's main market who're open most days. They have everything you could want, the fish is fresh, very good quality and is much more affordable. The fellows who work there, Tim the Codfather and his colleagues are not only friendly and very helpful but also have a way about them which keeps the crowd well entertained.
